Loveland Ski Area set to open Tuesday as storm heads into state Wednesday
Loveland Ski Area is set to open for the 2012-13 ski season on Tuesday, offering one mile-long run that drops nearly 1,000 vertical feet.
Snowmakers have put down an 18-inch base on a run that consists of three trails: Catwalk, Mambo & Homerun.
“Thanks to the long hours and hard work of our snowmaking crew, we are ready to kick off the 2012-13 season on Tuesday morning,” director of business operations Rob Goodell said in a press release.
“We are very proud of the conditions we will offer our guests on Tuesday. The coverage is exceptional from top to bottom, and we invite everyone to come up to celebrate the first day of our 75th anniversary season.”
Loveland joins Arapahoe Basin as the only two ski areas open for business in Colorado. A-Basin opened last week. Vail and Beaver Creek open Nov. 16 and Nov. 21 respectively.
“We are putting the finishing touches on the base area and also setting up five terrain park features towards the top of Mambo,” Loveland trail maintenance and snowmaking manager Bobby Babeon said in a release.
“The first skiers and riders of the season are really going to enjoy the conditions. Now that Catwalk, Mambo and Homerun are ready, we will shift our snowmaking efforts to additional terrain at Loveland Basin.”
Loveland will crank up Chair 1 at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Loveland will be open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Early season lift tickets are $49 for adults and $25 for children ages 6-14.
Loveland Ski Area season passes are now on sale and all Loveland season passes come with three free days at Monarch Mountain, three free days at Durango Mountain Resort (does not apply to mid-week passes) and one free day of unguided skiing at Silverton Mountain.
Unrestricted 4-Paks are also available for $129 ($32.25 a day) at skiloveland.com through Nov. 18.
The next wave of Colorado resorts will open Friday, Nov. 2, as Wolf Creek, Copper Mountain and Keystone join the fray. Copper will host a sneak preview for 200 season pass holders on Wednesday, Oct. 31, when the U.S. Ski Team starts training on Copper's Speed Center downhill course.
