Eagle County Sheriff offers new drug disposal drop box
The Eagle County Sheriff's Office is excited to announce the acquisition of a drug disposal drop box which allows residents to safely dispose of narcotics, prescription and non-prescription medications.
This new service is offered free of charge Monday – Friday during regular business hours. All drugs collected will be properly destroyed in our drug incinerator.
The Eagle County Sheriff's Office received the drug disposal drop box at no cost through a grant from The National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.
“My hope is, by significantly reducing the prescription drugs in homes that are either no longer needed or outdated, we decrease misuse and keep them from polluting our waterways,” said Sheriff Joe Hoy.
In addition to the services offered by the Eagle County Sheriff's Office, the Eagle Valley Pharmacy located inside the Vail Valley Medical Center, Edwards Pharmacy located inside the Shaw Pavilion, and the Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Wolcott will accept unwanted medications free of charge during regular business hours and will have them disposed of properly. Please note that these businesses cannot accept controlled substances such as codeine, valium, phenobarbital and others.
