East Vail bridge washed out in 2010 spring run-off to be replaced starting Monday

Construction work to replace the Susan Harris Nott Memorial Bridge, connecting Aspen Court to the Gore Valley Trail through the Katsos Ranch Open Space, is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 8.

The work will take nine weeks to complete. The bridge was washed out during the 2010 record-setting spring run-off event. Since then, town staff and engineers have been analyzing bridge types, completing the required approval process and soliciting bids.

The town has hired Ted Seipel Construction of Eagle to complete the work. The new bridge will be 70 feet in length and 14 feet in width and will be of similar design to the recreation path bridge near the East Vail Interstate 70 interchange.

The bridge is designed to accommodate the Nordic Center trail grooming machine and the Nordic trail will cross the bridge again this winter season.

The project will cost approximately $333,000 which is being covered by the town's insurance carrier. Contact Todd Oppenheimer, Capital Projects Manager at 479-2161 or toppenheimer@vailgov.com for additional information.
