Vail Tennis Center set to open for summer season

The Vail Tennis Center will open for play from Saturday, May 25, for the summer season on its eight clay courts at Ford Park. Located adjacent to the Ford Park softball fields, the Tennis Center will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Labor Day weekend.

Adult programs will begin on Monday, May 27 featuring a variety of opportunities for doubles and singles play throughout the summer. Season passes are on sale and costs are $125 for Vail Recreation District residents, $150 for non-VRD residents and $75 for youth, ages 17 and younger.

Adult programming is as follows with advanced registration required for all programs except Men's Night and Ladies' Day:

Doubles 4.0 or Better, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays for those with a 4.0 or above ($10)
Men's 60 and Over, 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays for all skill levels ($8)
Ladies' Day, 9 to noon on Wednesdays for all skill levels ($8)
Men's Night, 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays for all skill levels ($8)
Team Tennis Men and Ladie's, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for all skill levels ($8)
Ladies' Double Play, 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays
Men's Doubles for those with a 4.0 or above, 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for all skill levels ($8)
Men's Doubles, 1 to 3 p.m.on Saturdays ($8)
Sunday AM Play, 9 a.m. to noon on Sundays for all skill levels ($8)
Mixed Doubles, 3 to 5 p.m. Sundays for all skill levels ($8)

Additionally, Junior Tennis Camps and lessons will take place throughout the summer as follows:

Junior tennis lessons will take place Monday through Friday from from 8 to 9 a.m. for teens, 9 to 10 a.m. for ages five to six, 10 to 11 a.m. for ages seven to nine and 11 a.m. to noon for ages 10 through 12. Lessons will take place June 11 through Aug. 23 and cost $65 per week, per participant.

Junior Tennis Camps will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 24-28, July 1-5, July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, July 29 to Aug. 2 and Aug. 5-9. Costs are $175 for Vail residents and $200 for outside guests. Registration for tennis camps and lessons will be available beginning May 27. To register, call 970-479-2294.

Returning for the second summer, the Tennis Center will offer Pickle Ball on the Golden Peak courts beginning in June. This mini-tennis game is played by two or four people on a badminton-sized court using wood, or composite paddle racquets and a plastic, poly baseball with holes. Users must supply their own equipment. The Golden Peak courts are free to the public and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Tennis Center for details.
