Slopestyle event at GoPro Mountain Games in Vail added to Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour
The GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, the country’s largest celebration of the mountain lifestyle, adventure sports and music, is the newest stop on the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour, organizers announced this week.
The slopestyle bike competition at the Mountain Games on June 7 will be a silver level event on the tour, with competition open to professionals and amateur riders alike.
“For the past few years we’ve hosted some of the best riders in the world at our slopestyle event, including Chad Kagy, Sam Pilgrim and Mike Montgomery,” says Mike Imhof, Senior Vice President of Sales & Operations at the Vail Valley Foundation, which organizes the annual event.
“We’re excited to join the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour, giving our amateur riders a chance to compete against the best and bring a progressive, international series to the Games.”
Qualifying rounds for slopestyle begin on Friday, June 7, at noon at Golden Peak. The finals of one of the most popular events of the Games will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday with athletes battling for a $10,000 cash purse.
The Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour will host 33 events around the world in 2013. Professional and amateur athletes battle for titles in the individual events and also for the overall series titles.
