'Cookout for a Cause' with Kelly Liken to raise funds for Sowing Seeds Tuesday in Eagle

Residents and guests of the Vail Valley will have the opportunity to not only dig in, but also build up Tuesday evening, September 11, as the Vail Valley Foundation Youth Foundation's second “Cookout for a Cause” serves up a gourmet picnic at the Bonfire Brewing Company in Eagle.

Priced at $25 per ticket and scheduled from 5:30-8:30 p.m., the “Cookout for a Cause” event will feature fresh food, prepared by award-winning Chef Kelly Liken of Vail's Restaurant Kelly Liken, along with two free beers from the host. All proceeds from the evening will help fund the construction of a new Sowing Seeds greenhouse at Edwards Elementary School.
“The prospect of being able to add a greenhouse to the Sowing Seeds experience at Edwards Elementary is very exciting,” explained Susie Davis, Vice President of Education for the Vail Valley Foundation, “not only for us, but for the students. The greenhouse will allow us to take lessons from the classroom directly to the real world.”

Created by the VVF's Youth Foundation in 2010, Sowing Seeds provides the opportunity for students to plant and care for their own gardens in the Brush Creek greenhouse and Edwards raised gardens. The program, now serving over 800 students, not only connects children to their environment, but also fosters an understanding of the origin of food and teaches responsibility through stimulating hands-on activities.

To purchase tickets for the September 11 “Cookout for a Cause”, contact Kari Anderson, Director of Education Development for the Vail Valley Foundation, at either kanderson@vvf.org or (970) 748-5986.
