Athletic Club at the Westin mountain bike race series kicks off with Eagle Ranch Classic

The Vail Recreation District's (VRD) will kick off its summer season of mountain bike racing on Wednesday (5-23) featuring the Athletic Club at the Westin Mountain Bike Race Series, Eagle Ranch Classic.

The Eagle Ranch Classic will take racers ages eight and older through the jeep roads and single track surrounding the 4th of July trailhead in Eagle Ranch with distances ranging from 3.5 miles for youth racers to 12 miles for the pro and expert racers. This is the first race of the seven race series, which is presented by East West Resorts and the Vail Valley Medical Center.

Individual series registration cost $165 and individual race costs are $25 for preregistration or $35 on race-day. Registration is available by clicking here.

Preregistration for individual races ends at 5 p.m. today (5-22) and day-of registration will end at 5:30 p.m. The races will begin at 4:45 p.m. with the Larkburger Youth Series for riders ages 8 to 17, followed by Never Ever, Junior, Men and Women Beginner and Sport, Men's and Women's Vet Sport, Men's Masters Sport. Legends and Clydesdales at 5:45 p.m.
The Men and Women Pro and Expert, as well as Masters Expert, Single Speed and Vet Experts will race at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Pedaler, the official shop of the Eagle Ranch Classic, will be onsite to provide neutral support for racers with last minute mechanical issues.

The race will include an after party at The Dusty Boot in Eagle Ranch with a free keg of beer provided Bud Light. Prizes also will be presented after the race to the top three finishers of each category, as well as a raffle prize drawing featuring products from race sponsors, area merchants and national companies.

Participants are asked to park at the after party location in the Eagle Ranch Business District and ride to the start as parking is extremely limited at the trailhead. If participants drive to the start, they will need to park on 4th of July Road as directed by VRD staff. Arroyo Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 4th of July Road and Haystacker Road from 4 to 8 p.m.

On June 6, the Athletic Club at the Westin Mountain Bike Race Series, presented by East West Resorts and the VVMC, will continue with the Hammer in the Hay at 4 Eagle Ranch in Wolcott. The next race, on June 20, brings riders to Vail for the grinding uphill classic, the Davos Dash. Then, on July 11, racers will take to Vail Mountain for the Vail Grind. Racers will then enjoy the return of the Camp Hale Hup, near Red Cliff, on July 25. Returning for it's third summer, the Boneyard Brawl will take racers on a great course in Eagle on Aug. 1. Then on Aug. 15, racers will end the series with the Beaver Creek Blast in Beaver Creek.

In addition to the Athletic Club at the Westin, East West Resorts and the Vail Valley Medical Center, sponsors of the 2012 races include the Dusty Boot, Bud Light, FirstBank of Vail, Vail Resorts, Inc., Beaver Creek Resort Company, Aberle Investment Management, Apex Dental, Central Rockies Mortgage, KZYR, Honeystinger, Ellsworth Bicycles, HESTRA Gloves, Camelbak, POC, Optic Nerve, Street Swell, Outdoor Technology, Rocky Mountain Reprographics, Vail Honeywagon and The Steadman Clinic. The 2012 Youth Series is presented by Larkburger and KIDsport.
