Vail municipal site redevelopment subject of open house
Redevelopment plans for the Town of Vail Municipal Site will be presented during an open house from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 14 in the Vail Town Council Chambers, 75 S. Frontage Rd.
Adjacent property owners and other interested community members are encouraged to attend. The town has been working with its development partners on plans for construction of a new municipal building adjacent to the existing police department wing as well as construction of a medical office building on the site.
The open house, sponsored by the town's Community Development Department, will be used to collect public comments on topics ranging from site planning to architectural design options. Oz Architecture, the firm retained by the town to design the new municipal building, will also be available to answer questions. Representatives from the medical community, represented by Triumph Development, will also be on hand.
In addition to Monday's open house, upcoming development review meetings will include other opportunities for public comment with sessions held in the Town Council Chambers as follows:
May 14 - 1 p.m., work session with the Planning & Environmental Commission
May 14 - 4 to 5:30 p.m. public open house in Vail Town Council Chambers
May 15 - update to the Vail Town Council
May 21 - work session with the Planning & Environmental Commission
June 5 - update to the Vail Town Council
The Town of Vail and Triumph Development are in the process of preparing formal applications for development review and a conditional use permit for the medical office building to coincide with the July 9 Planning and Environmental Commission meeting.
The redevelopment project has been contemplated since May 2011 when the town was approached by leaders of Vail Valley Medical Center, the Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute with a proposal to address the growing needs of its medical facilities which have become landlocked. With the town's aging municipal complex nearing the end of its useful life, the prospect of redevelopment has been supported by the Town Council because of its long-term economic and civic benefits.
The Town Council has approved the sale of a portion of the municipal site to Vail Valley Medical Center and the Steadman Clinic to help facilitate the expansion.
