Dobson Ice Arena in Vail will close for scheduled maintenance and upkeep Sunday, April 29, and reopen June 4.

Scheduled work includes removing the ice surface and installing new ice; thorough cleaning of the dasher boards, glass and all public areas; preventative maintenance for the refrigeration system and major repair to the sub floor heat. A new hot water system and sky light shades also will be installed as part of a Town of Vail energy audit.

During the rink closure, Dobson will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and will continue to offer its skate sharpening service, as well as take registration for its summer camps and programs.

The Bob Johnson Hockey School will return July 15-21, bringing some of the top instructors in the country, including U.S. women's silver medal coach and 1980 Olympic gold medal team member Mark Johnson, to Vail.

The camp will teach young players how to improve and develop their hockey skills and feature lessons on the fundamentals of power skating, shooting, passing and stick handling, as well as sportsmanship and teamwork.
