Nominating petitions now available for two Vail Recreation District board seats

Nominating petitions are currently available for candidates interested in running for two open seats on the five-member Vail Recreation District (VRD) Board of Directors.

The regular special district election for the VRD will be held May 8. Nominating petitions are available by clicking here (pdf), or may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the VRD administration office, located at 700 S. Frontage Rd. E., adjacent to the Ford Park softball fields.

Candidates will have until 5 p.m. March 2 to return the nominating petitions. One valid signature from a registered Colorado voter is required for certification.

The board seats up for election are held by incumbents Michelle Hall and Jeff Wiles. Jeff Wiles is eligible to run for re-election while Michelle Hall is term limited. The terms of the remaining board members, Joe Hanlon, Rick Sackbauer and Ken Wilson, run to May 2014. To qualify for the upcoming VRD Board of Director election, candidates must:

be a resident of the VRD, or
be a property owner in the VRD, or
spouse of a property owner in the VRD, and
be an eligible voter in Colorado

April 9 is the last day to register as a Colorado voter for the May 8 regular special district election. Eligible voters include:

property owners within the VRD, who are registered to vote in the State of Colorado, this includes property owners who own within the VRD but live elsewhere in Colorado
a resident of the VRD
a person who is obligated to pay taxes under a contract to purchase taxable property in the VRD and an eligible voter in Colorado
the spouse of someone who is the owner of taxable real or personal property within the boundaries of the VRD and an eligible voter in Colorado

Mail-in voting requests are now being taken and can be downloaded by clicking here (pdf) or in writing at the VRD administration office. The final day to request a mail-in ballot is May 1 if the ballot is to be mailed. The final day for walk-in mail in ballot requests is May 4.

Voters will cast ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 8 at the Town of Vail Municipal Building, 75 South Frontage Road.
