Town of Vail issues moose alert
Following an increased number of moose sightings in Vail, police are advising residents and guests to use caution to avoid potential problems. Use these tips from the Colorado Division of Wildlife:
• Female moose (cows) are very protective of their young (calves) to the point of being dangerous if approached or caught off guard.
• Keep pets away as moose can get aggressive around them.
• If threatened by a moose, stay calm; do not run away; talk, make your presence known and slowly back off in the direction you came.
The police department is encouraging notification of moose sightings within the town by calling 479-2200. For more information on moose behavior, visit the Colorado Division of Wildlife website at www.wildlife.state.co.us.
