Last days for Vail, more snow in the forecast

500 inches of snowfall this season, nearly 43 feet

More snow in the forecast as ski season winds down for Vail. Not your ideal closing day forecast as snow will begin to fall again Saturday, April 23, and continue into Sunday, April 24. Strong southwest winds will bring in another system as the southern and central mountains look to take the brunt of it.

Vail can expect showers to begin Saturday during the day and last until mid-day Sunday. Expect 2-4 inches for the morning report Sunday, with on-mountain temps in the 30's and southwest/west winds in the 15-20 mph range. Off and on sunshine for most of the day Sunday as this system moves east.

Sunday afternoon should be warm enough for those of you who like to enjoy the hoopla at PHQ, along with the improved fireworks. A great season 2010-2011. After great early season snow, the northern mountains of Colorado never really had a long break in the action, giving us powder days just about every week.

And who can forget late January and early February? I haven't skied snow like that since '96. Thirty-nine days on the hill for me and 30 of them were boot deep or more.

Hope all of you had some of the same experiences that I did. Until next season, please be safe this weekend and wherever you may go during the off season. And keep dancing through the summer months so we may have another 500-inch season in 2012.

Enjoy!
