Polis wilderness protection bill won't close any legal mountain bike trails in Vail Valley
As a second generation Vailite, I am an avid mountain biker who grew up riding the many trails in and around Vail. I also love wilderness and recognize that both contribute to our great community and lifestyle.
I support Congressman Polis' Eagle and Summit County Wilderness Preservation Act as it has been presented. I appreciate the hard work and outreach he has done, and the many compromises he has made on behalf of bikers.
There are no legal mountain bike trails that would be closed by his bill. One of my favorites, Son of Middle Creek (in Spraddle Creek), was taken out of the proposal in response to outreach and will remain open and available to ride. The same is true of Stag Gulch in the West Lake Creek proposal area.
Vail has PLENTY of exclusive trail riding and road riding for all abilities right from town. Polis' Bill would provide a protected wilderness area within walking distance from Vail Village, both incredible assets to our Valley.
I encourage support of this bill, it strikes a good balance and would ensure these quality lands are protected.
