Aspen rescue workers recovering body of Dillon man who died on Pyramid Peak
Search and rescue crews today are working to recover the body of a Dillon man who fell to his death while climbing Pyramid Peak near Aspen on Saturday.
David Morano 41, of Dillon, plunged between 200 and 300 feet off the eastern edge of a ridge south of 14,018-foot Pyramid Peak, near Thunder Pyramid, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.
After Morano fell, his companion climbed out and called for help from a substation in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness at about 4:30 p.m., a statement from the sheriff's office reported. About an hour and a half later, a Mountain Rescue Aspen team flew over the area for reconnaissance.
Sheriff's deputies are still investigating the circumstances that led to Morano's fatal fall.
