Vail Pass avalanche victim identified as Westminster man

Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis Friday confirmed the man who died in an avalanche south of Vail Pass on Thursday was 38-year-old Mark McCarron of Westminster.

The cause and manner of death will be determined after an autopsy is performed.

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reported McCarron's death is sixth avalanche fatality in Colorado this season.

"Our deepest condolences to those involved and their friends and families," the CAIC posted on its website, which includes a preliminary report about the circumstances of McCarron's death.
