Coming to Avon to experience the official start of Stage 4 of Colorado's inaugural USA Pro Cycling Challenge? Cycling enthusiasts are invited to compare their power output to the pros at The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa at Beaver Creek Mountain's Riverfront Club Pro Power Challenge on Friday, Aug. 26th.

The Riverfront Club Pro Power Challenge will take place on The Westin Riverfront's Gondola Plaza – a prime viewing spot for the start of Stage 4 – from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Aug.26 and will feature two competitions:

• Sprint - a 30 Second ‘All-Out' effort: Participants will spend 5-10 minutes on a stationary bike, during which time they will perform a 30 second all-out sprint. Peak Power will be measured for the 30 seconds and a Peak Power/Kg Body weight will be compared to the Pro Level cyclists.
Goal - Pro Sprint (estimate): Mark Cavendish – 24.35 Watts/Kg (~1680 Watts – Peak)

• Hill Climb - 5 Minute Power Test: Participants will spend 10-15 minutes total on a stationary bike, during which time they will perform a 5 minute power test at a strong climb. Power will be measured for the 5 minutes and an Avg Power/Kg Body weight will be compared to the Pro Level Cyclists.
Goal - Pro Climb (estimate): Lance Armstrong – 6.0 Watts/Kg (~450 Watts)

Open to participants age 14 and older, the Riverfront Club Pro Power Challenge is free but a $10 donation is suggested. All proceeds will benefit Eagle County's Round Up River Ranch, a camp for children with life-threatening illnesses.

The two participants who come closest to the Avg Power/Kg (Watts/Kg) of the Pro Cyclists will each receive a two-night visit to The Westin Riverfront and complimentary fitness classes at the Riverfront Club during their stay. All participants who make a donation to the Round Up River Ranch will also be entered into a raffle to win prizes from The Westin Riverfront, the Riverfront Club and Spa Anjali, including personal training sessions, massages and fitness club guest passes.

Also on Friday morning, stop by The Westin Riverfront's tent at the Avon Festival & Bike Expo in Nottingham Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. to experience all off the resort's wellness offerings, including free mini massages from the talented therapists at Spa Anjali, gear from Beaver Creek Sports and information on Round Up River Ranch.

For the entire week of the race, from Aug. 22-28, stop by the Riverfront Club and participate in a spinning class and the club will donate half of the $10 class fee to the Roundup River Ranch. You can even still be entered to win the drawing for prizes!
