Beaver Creek to hold annual ski patrol tryouts March 19, 27

Beaver Creek Ski Patrol is hosting its annual ski test tryouts on Saturday, March 19th and Sunday, March 27th and they are looking for strong alpine and telemark skiers who would like to be considered for new hire positions for the 2011-2012 ski season.

“Each season we look to add to our strong roster of patrollers with the addition of new skiers who exhibit solid skills on a variety of terrain and conditions across Beaver Creek Mountain,” said Addy McCord, Beaver Creek's Ski Patrol Director. “Current Beaver Creek Ski Patrol members will be evaluating candidates on snow and they will share their knowledge and experience with interested participants.”

The ski test includes a morning meeting and introduction at PHQ, the ski test, which consists of skiing a variety of runs in variable conditions and evaluated by members of Beaver Creek's current patrol team, and a closing interview. Participants who meet the skiing requirements will be required to attend a “shadow” day with the ski patrol for further evaluation and to learn more about the job. Hiring of patrol positions takes place each fall, prior to ski season.

Beaver Creek Ski Patrol hires a handful of new patrollers each year to join its 40-member staff. Ski Patrol opens and closes the mountain each day and provides emergency medical care, skier responsibility education and enforcement, mitigation of avalanche hazard, guest relations and assistance. Members also ski on average 120 days per year.

Interested participants should RSVP in advance by calling Beaver Creek Ski Patrol at (970) 754-6610. Participants will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Patrol Headquarters at the top of the Cinch Express Lift (#8) on Saturday, March 19th or Sunday, March 27th.
